Like to travel? Like to write? Get your Trazzle on! (You just might win something, too)

Imaginarily check all that apply:

  • I like to travel
  • I like to write
  • I think it would be cool to be a travel writer
  • I know of this great hole-in-the-wall/getaway/locals-only joint/roadside attraction/restaurant/park/hotel/spa/market that I want to shout about from the mountain top
  • I like to win stuff

If you’ve pseudo-checked at least one of these and haven’t been over to the Trazzler website, you’ll want to schedule some time in your calendar to change your ways. Trazzler is an online travel destination reference site, but what makes it different is that it’s written by YOU. Not some publishing company that puts out the same logistic factoids as the next big guy, which you can find in droves at your local bookstore, but real emotion and insight that can only come from people who are passionate about spreading the word of hidden gems they’ve unearthed around the globe.

The individual Trazzler “trips”, as the reviews are called, are short, sweet, and to the point. Written with colorful descriptions that make you lose yourself for a moment… You feel like you were right next to them in that bar in Thailand… instead of the loud, chip-eating guy in the cubicle beside you.

If you know a great location you want to shout to the world, or maybe just a familiar place that you’ve seen through different eyes, why not share that experience?  Anyone can write a trip for Trazzler, and if your writing fits their style, it will get added to the ever-growing library of dream destinations and bucket-list locations on the site. You can also add your own picture-perfect photo that captures another thousand words.

Interested, but need a little more motivation? Trazzler regularly holds writing contests. That’s right, boys and girls, your little excerpt about Mama Ray’s Biscuit Barn could win you cash, trips, and even a chance to have a contract writing more of the same goodness for the site. All you have to do to enter is follow along on their Writing Contest page to see what the latest angle is, submit your trip with a special identifying tag, and that’s it! Current contest themes are “On the Road“, “Mendocino“, and “Smart Travel“. You can enter to win luxury hotel stays, cash prizes, freelance writing contracts, and even a South Pacific sea expedition in Tonga!

Trazzler does have a particular writing style and format for their audience to get the most impact out of a review; ways to paint the picture in your mind with juicy descriptions. Before you get started, read some of the existing published trips and then hop over to their writing style guide to see what they are looking for. Then, sign up for a free account and you’re on your way!

I’ve been a member of Trazzler since the early days of the site, almost two years ago, and was fortunate enough to be their very first freelance contract winner. By submitting an entry about mom-and-pop locales, I was awarded a paid contract to write additional trips about my previous stomping grounds of Raleigh, North Carolina. You can see some of those trips, as well as others I’ve written, here on my profile page. I’m getting back into the fray and have a lot more sights to add to the batch soon!

Trazzler also makes membership fun by allowing you to save a wish list of dream destinations and get a feel for your travel style, as well as recommendations for your area. You can also connect with other members of the Trazzler community and invite your friends along on your cyber travels via Facebook. Planning a getaway or grand vacation?  Be sure to visit the main site, type in your journey’s locale, and get a jump start on places to go and things to see while you’re there. It’s a fantastic way to do a little globe-trotting from the comfort of your computer chair.

What are you going to write about?
