Aspiring to be like Bert the Conqueror

If you haven’t caught the show yet, and lean towards having a little child-like, adventurous fun in your life, get thee tuned in to the Travel Channel and a little show called Bert the Conqueror.

Bert Kreischer* is your host, taking you along on amazing adventures all over the country. I first got sucked in when he did an episode based at Cedar Point, my official happy place. Growing up in Cleveland, we were frequent visitors to The Roller Coast, and I love seeing it pop up on shows like this one. Bert spends a lot of time visiting theme and amusement parks, but also tries his hand at unusual festival and sporting events, like the North American Wife Carrying Championship in Maine and redneck waterskiing in South Carolina (“…a backwoods pastime that replaces water with mud, and a boat with a track hoe.”).

Aw, see what I’m missing back in the South?

He isn’t always eager to participate, though… In the Las Vegas episode, Bert visibly struggled with his fear of heights as he became the first paying customer to fall off of the Stratosphere tower on their new SkyJump attraction. Through it all, he does it with an infectious personality, humor (he’s also a stand-up comedian), ridiculousness, and a bit of sarcasm.

My kinda guy.

* Fun fact: Bert’s college experience was the base idea for the film Van Wilder, conceived after a Rolling Stone article about him was released in 1997.
